How to Create and Manage Categories in WordPress

  • Log in to your WordPress account.
  • Go to Posts > Categories from the left sidebar of the WordPress dashboard.
  • A new page will open from where you can create a category.
  • Click on the Add New Category button.
  • Write the category name and description of the category you want to create.
  • Make sure that the top-level category option is on.
  •  Click on Add button.
  • A new category will be created.
  • Go to the category page from the WordPress dashboard.
  • Click on the Add New Category button.
  • Write the category name and description.
  • Select the category you recently created in the parent category option by unchecking the top-level category option.
  • Click on the Add new category button to create it.

  • Open the category page from your WordPress dashboards.
  • Find the specific category that you want to edit.
  • Click on the specific Category.
  • A new dialog box will open named Edit category.
  • You can now edit its name, description, and convert it into a subcategory or main category.
  • Go to posts > categories from the WordPress dashboard.
  • Find the category that you want to delete.
  • Click on the three dots icon present next to that category.
  • Click on the delete option and it will ask you to delete it permanently or not.
  • Open a specific article and expand the category from the right sidebar. 
  • Assign the category from the list.
  • You can use a single word in your WordPress category name to make it easy to understand for users.
  • You can do keyword research to identify the best categories for your topics and optimize them for search engines.
  • You can use as many categories as you like in your article. You can keep your website manageable by assigning multiple categories to your web content.
